Tim O'Reilly @ SIMS - Berkeley

Tim O’Reilly address in the awards ceremony at SIMS (School of Information and Management Systems) is both a word of caution an encouragement. We all know Tim O’Reilly, he is famous for presenting the bright side of technology and specially for detecting the trend wave and summarizing it better than anybody else. Web 2.0 is his invention and its summary too : “harnessing collective intelligence”, too the examples of user-contributed content like eBay, Amazon (the reviews) or user driven applications like Google (that grows every time that you create a link). This time we heard a word of caution. Internet changed many things and among them lowered transaction costs and intermediation costs, however doing so removed the competitive advantage of many business and many people and this is the dark side: concentration. Concentration of power in few hands with whom nobody can possibly compete. Just underline the final advice … and pls … try again !! "What we fight with is so small, and when we win, it makes us small. What we want is to be defeated, decisively, by successively greater things."
